I have been a huge Anglogphile since I watched Dr. Who repeats on PBS as a child (the one with the scary intro equivalent to Night Gallery). I watched Diana marry Charles, I watched Charles, William, and Harry bury Diana and I sure as hell woke up at 4am to watch Harry marry Meghan. I got real bougie and decided to forgo American channels and watched the wedding on ITV out of London. It was beautiful and I still cannot wrap my head around that a woman from Compton with a mother who wears sisterlocs and a nose ring married a Prince of England.
Although some publications tried to falsely equate her marriage to the elevation of black women in society we did not need this marriage to recognize the royalty we are but we celebrated for her and with her just the same. May she be happy for all her days and may Harry forever recognize the privilege of being loved by a beautiful, talented, generous black woman.
